How I started
I began working with the Driffle team by fostering open communication to ensure everyone was aligned on the project's vision. We had several meetings to understand the core requirements, discussing the platform's objectives, user demographics, and how the product would fit into the gaming market.
Engaged with stakeholders to understand their vision and goals
Conducted deep dives into the gaming market to assess user needs
Clarified the project's scope, user journey, and design requirements
Collaborated on developing a realistic timeline and resource plan
Research
I dove deep into understanding how the gaming industry operates, both from a business and user perspective. I started by conducting thorough market research, identifying both direct and indirect competitors. This allowed me to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of existing platforms.
Additionally, I reached out to fellow gamers, to get firsthand insights into their needs, preferences, and pain points. Their feedback helped shape the user experience to cater directly to the gaming community.
Design Conceptualization
From UX aspect
I began by mapping out the user flows, ensuring that the journey from product discovery to purchase was smooth and intuitive. I focused on creating seamless navigation throughout the site, so users could easily find games, gift cards, or DLCs without getting lost. A special emphasis was placed on simplifying the checkout process, minimizing any friction that might cause users to abandon their carts. I also outlined how different payment options and seller transparency would integrate into the flow, ensuring a seamless UX from start to finish.
Created detailed user flows for each stage of interaction, from browsing to purchase
Defined a clear navigation system for quick access to categories and games
Focused on minimizing cart abandonment through a streamlined checkout experience
Integrated multiple payment options and clear seller information to foster transparency
Ensured the user journey remained consistent and easy for both first-time and experienced users
Design Creation
Crafting Design Language
Once the UX structure was clear, the next step was to bring everything to life visually. My focus was on creating a clean, modern interface that reflected the excitement of gaming while maintaining a simple, user-friendly aesthetic. I ensured that:
The color palette was vibrant yet easy on the eyes, avoiding fatigue during extended browsing.
The typography was bold and readable, enhancing the gaming experience.
Key elements like buttons, menus, and icons were designed for quick accessibility, making navigation seamless.
Consistency across pages was maintained, ensuring that each interaction felt intuitive and smooth.
Iterations and Design Sprints
To ensure smooth progress, I organized design sprints with the team, dividing tasks into manageable chunks to hit our project milestones. Each sprint focused on specific sections like the homepage, product pages, and checkout flow.
I shared designs regularly with the team, gathering feedback to refine the user experience. After each round of feedback, I iterated quickly, making adjustments to keep the design on track while maintaining our timeline.
Concept Testing: How I handled the difference in the opinion
During the project, the team considered switching the website from dark mode to light mode. While I advocated for dark mode, explaining how it enhances the gaming experience by reducing eye strain and aligning with the audience's preferences, they requested concept testing to validate the choice. I designed a few pages in light mode for comparison.
After testing, the data supported my initial decision—dark mode provided better usability and user satisfaction. The team agreed, and we proceeded with the dark theme, ensuring a more immersive and comfortable user experience.
Outcome & Impact
Final Design
The final design exceeded expectations, earning praise from the team and the gaming community alike. It perfectly balanced aesthetics with functionality, creating a user-friendly experience tailored to gamers’ needs.
Designed by a gamer for gamers, the platform resonated deeply with its audience, offering intuitive navigation, seamless purchasing, and visually engaging elements that enhanced the overall experience. The result was a product the team loved, meeting both business goals and user satisfaction.
Impact
Within just three months of implementation, the impact was clear: sales increased by 27%. Regular UX improvements, based on user feedback, contributed to this growth. Many users highlighted the platform’s simplicity, particularly the seamless key management process, as the reason they preferred Driffle over competitors. By focusing on intuitive design and removing friction, the platform became a go-to choice for gamers looking for a hassle-free experience.
